Garage Door Parts: Insulation

Monday, April 6th, 2009

When it comes to garage door opener parts we often talk about repairing a problem more than preventing a problem.  The key to a nice and cozy garage is maintinance and making it more efficient.  Hopefully by reading this article you can save some money from your heating bill.

Your garage takes up a lot of heat in your house.  Anyone who owns one will tell you right off the bat that they take forever to get warm.  And its your garage where you could be loosing a lot of heat in your house.  The DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy states that the most leakage (31%) occurs through the walls, floors, ceilings, and air ducks (15%).  Your garage was most likely not built with premium insulation.  Talk about an energy hog!

As far as your garage goes I am a firm believer that the topic of insulation is a very important topic.  This is really important for me personally because have a huge garage that I have to heat and I do that via a waste oil boiler that I purchased three years ago that I fuel with the oil from my oil change business.  We have long winters where I live so I want to have the most minimal amount of heat leakage as humanly possible so I do not run out of oil (we don’t do a lot of oil changes during the winter).

Okay so hot air rises and where does it go?  The building envelope: the roof, walls, doors, and windows that enclose your garage.  You need to make sure that those components are airtight to make it energy efficient.  You want to close as many holes as possible.  The need to build or get built shafts made from plywood and foam weatherstripping  and plug the holes with them.  You can also use the spray foam.  That’s what I did.  I used urethane.  Stuff is excellent.  I spray foamed my whole attic above the garage.  I can heat it now with minimum heat even at cold temperatures.

You have to uncover all the hidden holes in your garage.  There are most likey more than you think. You can plus small holes with fire barrier sealant.  Remember to seal all the holes in your ducks.

I’m seeking definite answers. That’s a habit of mine. Do you think this would only work with garage door opener parts?. Do you really think this is so?.

There are some things that are worth investing into. You know, those things that make your life way easier. And the truth is that the little things count. For instance, why strain yourself lifting that heavy garage door after getting from a tiresome day at the job when you can always use a garage door opener?

And from the wide range of openers available, one of the most popular of them all is the remote operated Genie garage door opener. You will be able to open the door of your garage just by sitting inside your car, you will never have to get out of it.

Installation is not very difficult either. For an ambitious person with some mechanical skills and a set of tools, it should be a walk in the park, especially since the manuals that all Genie openers come with are really good and provide with plenty of information. If you still are not sure about what you are doing, how about calling a friend or a neighbor over to help?

The Genie garage door opener is built in such a way that it meets all the security guidelines, so the protection of your garage is guaranteed. An interesting and undoubtedly useful feature is the automatic reversal system. This means that whenever the door of the opener encounters an obstacle for more than 3 seconds, it will turn back on its tracks. For even more additional security, a vacation lock is incorporated into the opener.

This is a short summary of the most important features of the Genie garage door opener. It is certainly a very viable option for your garage, so make sure that you take it into serious consideration.

Garage Door Opener Parts Maintenance

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I cannot emphasize this point anymore than I have.  I have written this on numerous blogs and will continue to do so in the future.

Please lubricate your garage door opener chain.  This can save you a lot of time.  If your chain has already broken then you will have to cough up at least $180-$200 and I hoped you learned your lesson.  If not please follow this advice and do it.

Go to the store and get a can of DW40.  If there is another type of oil you want to get then fine but in my experience DW40 works the best.  Its the strongest and is the best as far as anti corrosion and anti moisture.  You can’t beat it.

Get a ladder if you have to and spray the hell out of the chain.  Use up the whole can if you have to.  One $5.00 can of cheap WD40 costs a lot less than having to buy a brand new chain for your garage door.  It an expensive part.

Let the spray permeate.  A lot of oil may drip to the floor so just have a rag to wipe it up.  Let it sit there for at least an hour before using your garage.

And there you go.  You are good for at least a year.  You can go longer depending on how much your garage door gets used.  Inspect it from time to time.  Just don’t expect that all the parts on your garage door opener are going to last.  Just like the bearings in your vehicle’s engine need oil, and need that oil to be replenished for it to work properly, so does your chain.

If you are searching for garage door opener parts then we have tons of sites to the letf on this posts that give you the best deals in parts.  You can go to the department store but you will at least pay 30-50% percent more than if you ordered it online.  The money saved is worth the 2-3 day wait.

If your chain has a lot of slack in it and you want to fix this go to the section about adjusting your garage door opener chain.
